Regional emission pathways, energy transition paths and cost analysis under various effort-sharing approaches for meeting Paris Agreement goals

چکیده
International climate policy debate has been struggling to define an agreeable principle for just distribution of the burdens reducing greenhouse gases. By integrated assessment modeling, we investigate change mitigation pathways compatible with Paris Agreement goals under different carbon budget allocation principles, namely, cost-effectiveness, equality, and grandfathering 11 world regions. The results indicate that regional quotas remain similar equality except regions a high population projection, i.e., Sub-Saharan Africa South Asia, or level current emissions, such as North America. Irrespective burden-sharing most must reach neutrality before 2070 meet 2 °C targets. Moreover, emissions reduced by capture storage applications are found peak around 2050. In general, share fossil fuels in primary energy is larger quota, which will also increase fuels. average global investment needs mitigating lowest cost-effectiveness principle, marginal abatement cost same all For each region, quota decreases increases, while changes independently from quota. These insights can inform negotiations help policymakers formulate timelines neutrality, transition, technology deployment portfolios.

The results indicated a long-run relationship between these variab...
متن کاملUnderstanding the origin of Paris Agreement emission uncertainties
The UN Paris Agreement puts in place a legally binding mechanism to increase mitigation action over time. Countries put forward pledges called nationally determined contributions (NDC) whose impact is assessed in global stocktaking exercises. Subsequently, actions can then be strengthened in light of the Paris climate objective: limiting global mean temperature increase to well below 2 °C and p...
متن کاملPaths and consistency in additive cost sharing
Using a new representation theorem for additive cost sharing methods as sums of path methods, we show that many of the standard additive cost sharing methods (Aumann-Shapley, Shapley Shubik, and Serial Cost) are consistent. These results follow directly from a simple suucient condition for consistency: being generated by associative paths, which can be used to show consistency for many other me...
